Laboratory lighting

What should you consider when selecting lighting for clinical environments such as dental laboratories, pharmaceutical production, sample preparation, or research facilities? At D-tec, we specialize in laboratory lighting and have more than 30 years of experience developing professional lighting solutions for demanding environments. All of our luminaires are also manufactured in Sweden.

Optimal illumination without shadows or glare.

In addition to providing excellent colour rendering (CRI 94), which is especially important in environments such as dental laboratories, our luminaires deliver an optimal illuminance ranging from 3,000 to 9,500 lux. Each luminaire incorporates hundreds of small LEDs working together with integrated microprisms to distribute light evenly throughout the workspace. The result is a working environment completely free from flicker, shadows, and glare, providing superior precision and exceptional lighting quality.

Reduce eye strain by minimizing contrast.

Creating an optimal working environment also means reducing the contrast between different light sources so the entire workspace is illuminated evenly. Large differences in light intensity can lead to headaches, eye strain, and fatigue because the eyes constantly have to adjust between bright and dark areas. For example, if you work with bright microscope images, it is essential that the surrounding room lighting is equally well balanced. The same applies to dissection work and other precision-based laboratory tasks. The ideal solution is laboratory lighting that closely resembles natural daylight, which is exactly what inspired the development of our lighting systems. Hygienic construction for hygienic environments.

Our luminaires feature a hygienic aluminium housing with fully enclosed LED modules, preventing dirt and bacteria from entering the fixture. This makes the luminaires virtually maintenance-free. Aluminium is also a recyclable material with excellent heat-dissipating properties. Our Brite model, available in four different sizes, is one of our most popular laboratory lighting solutions. It is also highly energy efficient. Read more about energy savings.

More alert employees with dynamic lighting.

Did you know that several of our luminaires allow you to automatically adjust the colour temperature throughout the day using a timer? Depending on the time of day, the colour temperature can vary between 3000 K and 5700 K, helping prepare your body for a good night’s sleep while still supporting productivity during working hours. The result is improved concentration, increased alertness, and enhanced overall well-being. With the right lighting, employees stay more focused throughout the day, work more efficiently, and experience a clearer distinction between day and night, helping the brain relax more effectively and promoting better sleep. Our Leaf, Cloud, Clair och Brite Triton models all offer this dynamic lighting feature. You can also explore these luminaires in our lighting laboratory, where you can experiment with different light levels and colour temperatures to visualize how they would perform in your own laboratory. FAQ

Frequently asked questions about laboratory lighting.

Why is proper lighting important in laboratory environments?

Optimal laboratory lighting improves precision, reduces the risk of errors, and contributes to staff well-being by minimizing eye strain, headaches, and stress.

What light level is recommended for laboratory lighting?

D-tec recommends an illuminance of 3,000 to 9,500 lux, providing the ideal balance for a wide range of laboratory applications, from microscopy to sample preparation.

How does colour rendering affect laboratory work?

With a CRI of 94, D-tec lighting reproduces colours naturally and accurately, which is essential for precise analyses and tasks in research, healthcare, and laboratory environments.

Can laboratory lighting affect employees’ sleep?

Yes. Dynamic lighting that automatically adjusts between 3000 K and 5700 K throughout the day helps support the body’s natural circadian rhythm, improving both sleep quality and overall well-being.

Why is daylight-like lighting important in laboratories?

Lighting that closely resembles natural daylight enhances concentration, precision, and work quality while creating a comfortable and natural working environment.

What makes D-tec’s Brite luminaire unique?

The Brite luminaire is available in four sizes and is popular for its high light output, hygienic construction, and energy-efficient design, making it an ideal solution for demanding laboratory environments.
